Thurston Aviation have extended the scope of our EASA Part145 and 2-REG approval to add the Eclipse Aerospace EA500/550 for line and base maintenance to support Channel Jets Limited the biggest operator of the Eclipse Jet.

The extension of the company approval will allow Channel Jets to improve the charter fleet availability with a dedicated AOG engineering team.

Thurston Aviation completes pre-purchase reviews of two Grumman G-73 Mallard amphibious aircraft on behalf of an existing customer.

The Grumman Mallard was the corporate aircraft of the late 1940's and 1950's and was the aircraft that led to the development by Grumman Aviation of todays Gulfstream range of corporate jets.

Thurston Aviation hosted the Rolls Royce Heritage flight over the 4 days of the 2022 Bournemouth Airshow which this year was attended by over 600,000 people, The Heritage flight consists of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. 19 G-RRGN Serial Number PS853 and the North American P-51 Mustang G-SHWN Serial Number 122-40417.

Both aircraft are based at East Midlands Airport and are the star attractions at the Rolls Royce Heritage Hangar.

Thurston Aviation perform a 24 Month Inspection on a Gulfstream GVII G600 - We are the first company to perform this inspection outside of the Gulfstream Aerospace MRO network.

4th January 2022

A new Year and new challenges with the start of a very busy peroid of back to back Base Maintenance inputs including in January a Gulfstream 550 12 month inspection and a Falcon 900LX 24 Month Inspection.

February is fully booked with a Falcon 7X 12 Month Inspection, Gulfstream G280 6 year Inspection followed by a tripple CZI Engine Change on a Falcon 50EX.

2021 NEWS

27th December 2021

At the end of a busy December the final three projects of the year are completed.

In December we have welcomed a Dassault Falcon 900EX and a Global Express for CAMO and Maintenance.

We have also performed a PPI Aircraft Inspection for a large USA based Brokerage and then said goodbye to one of our long term Dassault Falcon 900EX's which is now off to its new owner in the United States.

From the beginning of 2020 to the end of 2021 has been a time of great change for the fleet of aircraft maintained and managed by Thurston Aviation and i would like to thank all of the employees for there support and flexibility through what has been a very challenging period.

Thurston Aviation have assisted in the purchase and re-registration of two Dassault Falcon 7X Aircraft during August, Both aircraft are now operating with their new owners and we will providing CAMO and Maintenance support for both aircraft

As part of a consortium of MRO's based at Bournemouth Airport including Draken Europe, GAMA Aviation, Jets Engineering, Technicair and Thurston Aviation we have been working over the past few months to assist in the setup of a locally based aircraft maintenance Level 3 Apprenticeship programme with Bournemouth and Poole College.

The course will be tailored to include the business jets maintained by the companies based at the airport and the knowledge and expertise will be shared to ensure that the apprentices are exposed to a wide range of different aircraft types and different technologies.

The setup of this training in the local aera where multiple Aviation companies are based is positive news for the existing aviation hub in Dorset who all require well trained qualified staff.

Following a busy couple of weeks Thurston Aviation have completed their first 12 month inspection on the latest Gulfstream 600 aircraft.

The workscope included, scheduled, defect rectification and our first Superflush compressor wash of the engines to comply with the Pratt & Whitney ESP engine insurance programme requirements.

Of the 45 aircraft that have been delivered we have been luckily enough to have two examples in the hangar this week undergoing maintenance.

Thurston Aviation provide PPI support for both the seller and buyer of a Dassault Falcon 900LX aircraft which included the aircraft re-registration support in Switzerland and Malta.

Thurston Aviation will be providing Maintenance and CAMO support to the new owner.

Thurston Aviation have extended their CAA PART 145 Approval to add the Dassault Falcon 7X/8X for Line and Base Maintenance and the Gulfstream GVII (G500/G600) Line and Base Maintenance.

The Thurston Aviation battery shop has been approved by the CAA to perform maintenance on the True Blue Lithium Ion Batteries that are fitted to the Bell 505 helicopter.

The lithium-ion batteries are the very latest in technology and offer a quantum leap in performance. Lithium-ion cells can store 3 times as much energy per kilogram to a Ni-Cad battery, they offer a longer life, faster recharging, more voltage and no memory effects.

Thurston Aviation are happy to anounce that Gary Kerslake has agreed to join the Thurston Aviation team to establish a inhouse engine line maintenance capability.

Gary is well known throughout the industry for his field service work with the Pratt & Whitney 300 series engines and this will be further developed with the addition of the Pratt & Whitney PW800, Honeywell TFE and HTF and Rolls Royce BR710 and BR725 engines.

Thurston Aviation have been approved by EASA to continue to perform line / base maintenance and component maintenance on EASA registered aircraft within the United Kingdom.

The scope of approval reflects our current CAA PART 145 approval.


2020 NEWS

30 November 2020

Thurston Aviation have established an inhouse component workshop to allow aircraft battery overhaul and capacity checks to be completed on site at Bournemouth Airport.


This additional C5 rating has been added to our CAA and EASA PART 145 approvals and will allow a much faster turn time on the customers batteries without any associated transport delays or costs for routine maintenance.


The component workshop is equipped with seven fully automatic state of the art Charger / Analysers supplied by Intelligent Charging Limited.

The approved initial scope covers main and Standby Batteries installed on the following aircraft types:-

Agusta 139, Airbus A340, Bell 429, Boeing 737, Citation All Series, Challenger 300 & 600 Series, Falcon 50 to 8X, Global XRS,5000, 6000, Gulfstream G280,GIV,450,550,500,600,650, Hawker 125, Learjet 45, Pilatus PC12 & 24 and Piaggio P180.


22 October 2020

Thurston Aviation has completed the internal refurbishment of an ex charter Bombardier Global 5000 Vision.

The interior refurbishment included softgoods, seats, woodwork,metalwork and EASA certification has all been performed by locally based suppliers to Bournemouth Airport within a very tight timeframe.

Cabin Interior design was performed by Boutsen Design of Monoco.

Thurston Aviation engineers have also completed a full systems review and defect rectification along with upcoming scheduled and out of phase maintenance inspections to deliver the aircraft on time to a very happy new owner.

Ongoing CAMO and Maintenance activities will be performed by Thurston Aviation

Thurston Aviation have welcomed into the CAMO department two new aircraft, A Gulfstream V and a brand new Gulfstream GVII-G500.

Thurston Aviation have established a line station at Farnborough airport to support the customers who are based and operate through there, Farnborough Airport is the United Kingdoms busiest business aviation airport and serves as a convenient access point to London.

The line station is equiped with a fully stocked workshop van to allow line maintenance to be performed on non-based aircraft located out on the aprons.

Thurston Aviation complete a 72 month inspection on a Gulfstream G450, The check was performed under Covid lockdown conditions and was completed in a very tight timeframe which required a massive effort by all of the engineers involved .

After a nine week shutdown to protect the staff and families all non shielding Thurston Aviation staff have returned to full time work, We are currently running a four on four off shift system with the company split into two groups to offer further protection.

This has been a difficult peroid for everyone and only essencial engine ground runs and storage maintenance have been performed by a limited number of staff.

Thurston Aviation welcomed the first Gulfstream GVII (G600) to land at Bournemouth Airport.

This new aircraft type was hangared for the weekend and ground equipment was tested to ensure compatablity with the latest Gulfstream Aerospace model.

Following the recent closure of Thomas Cook Airlines Thurston Aviation have taken over the employment and apprenticeship of Ella Crews who was 14 months into her Part 66 A license enginnering training with the Resourse Group.

We would like to welcome Ella to the team and thank the Resource Group and Easyjet for their support of the ex Thomas Cook apprentices through this difficult peroid in their careers.

Thurston Aviation completes the purchase and re-registration to the Isle of Man of a Dassault Falcon 7X.

The aircraft will be supported for CAMO and Maintenance by Thurston Aviation.

This aircraft will be the first of up to three Dassault Falcon 7X's joining Thurston Aviation over the next few months.

Thurston Aviation complete their first Agusta AW139 6,12, 24 Month and 300 Hour Inspection package.

The full maintenance package was completed in house in just over 4 weeks.

John had previously held the position of Hanger Manager.

 We would like to announce the sad passing of Mac McMullan our Maintenance Manager .

Mac had been with the company since the start in 2011 and had run the hangar in his own unique way during all of this peroid.

In the short term Robin Jones will assume the duties of the Maintenance Manager.

Following a sucessful aplication to the FAA and CAA Thurston Aviation are now a FAA repair Station and can perform maintenance on United States registered commercialy operated aircraft.

The FAA repair station is based on the scope of approval of the EASA PART 145 approval.

Thurston Aviation completes its 10th Gulfstream G650 new aircraft delivery with the arrival of G650ER 6355. This aircraft will shortly become the first EASA-OPS operated Gulfstream G650ER.

The aircraft will be based and operated from the United Kingdom by Executive Jet Charter Limited.

Thurston Aviation perform their first 72 month inspection of a Gulfstream G550 aircraft.

The aircraft was returned to the customer one week earlier than planned.

Thurston Aviation assisted with a customers request to support a Gulfstream G550 trip to Northern Antarctica.

The aircraft landed on a 3500 metre ice runway at a chilly -24 degrees centigrade, The aircraft remained on the ice for 6 hours before returning to South Africa.

Thurston Aviation have become the CAMO provider for Eclipse 500 Operator Channel Jets who provide a private jet charter service based in Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

Channel Jets were awarded their AOC by the 2-REG in June 2018, The fleet is expected to grow to 5 aircraft by mid 2019.

Thurston Aviation perform the delivery and registration of a Bell 429 from the European Bell Helicopters completion centre in Prague. The aircraft has been registered in the Isle of Man and ongoing maintenance and CAMO will be performed by Thurston Aviation.

Thurston Aviation completes the registration of an Embraer Phenom 100, The aircraft was imported from the United States and will operate from the United Kingdom for its new owners.

Thurston Aviation have been granted approval by the Director or Civil Aviation of the Bailiwick of Guernsey to perform Continuing Airworthiness Management of aircraft registered in Guernsey. 
The approval will allow Thurston Aviation to offer CAMO services to the rapidly growing aircraft register.

Thurston Aviation have performed the delivery and registration of its third Gulfstream G650 aircraft in a 7 week peroid, This is the fourth British registered G650 delivered by Thurston Aviation. 
The aircraft was delivered from Gulfstream Aerospace Savannah and will operate on a UK based AOC. 
The aircraft has been monitored over the past 6 months through the completion process with all milestone inspections performed for the owner by Thurston Aviation.

Thurston Aviation have performed the delivery and registration of another Gulfstream G650 from Gulfstream Aerospace Appleton, The aircraft has been registered in the Isle of Man and will be temporarily based at Bournemouth airport.

Thurston Aviation will operate the aircraft on behalf of the owner.

Thurston Aviation have assisted in the sale of a Gulfstream IV-SP and the introduction of a replacment Gulfstream 550. The aircraft will be operated from its home base in the Middle East with Thurston Aviation providing ongoing maintenance and CAMO support.

Thurston Aviation have welcomed their first Embraer Legacy 600 into its CAMO department. The aircraft was surveyed and registered onto the Isle of Man Aircraft Registery on behalf of its owner by Thurston Aviation Staff . The aircraft will operate from its home base in the Middle East.

Thurston Aviation have been granted our EASA Part 145 approval today from the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority. We have a wide scope of maintenance approvals and are now able to maintain EASA registered aircraft including the Bombardier Challenger 300 / 604 / 605, Dassault Falcon 900 / 2000, Gulfstream 280 / 450 / 550 and the Hawker 125 700-900XP Series. The addition of the Part 145 will enhance the service we already provided to our customers and we would like to thank them for their continued support going into a very busy 2017.

2nd November 2016

Thurston Aviation have assisted in the sale of a Hawker 900XP for one of our customers. 

As part of the pre buy inspection and sale process the buyer completed an avionics upgrade, A cabin refurbishment and a complete strip and repaint. The Aircraft will now be based on the west coast of the United States for a Corporate operator.

Thurston Aviation have registered a Piaggio Avanti P-180 onto the Isle of Man Aircraft registry. The aircraft will be operated around the United Kingdom and Europe for a private owner.
Thurston Aviation will be providing ongoing maintenance and CAMO support for this unique aircraft.

Thurston Aviation is the new home for an Agusta AW139 which will operate around the United Kingdom and Northern Europe for a private owner. Castle Air Limited will be providing maintenance support from their Biggin Hill facility.

Thurston Aviation have submitted an application to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority to obtain an EASA PART 145   Maintenance Organisation Approval.
The PART 145 Approval once issued will allow a further development of the company to proceed releasing a further investment into new aircraft types and markets.

Thurston Aviation have supplied all of their contracted operators with an Isle of Man Aircraft Registry and EASA PART NCC Compliant Maintenance Control Manual (MCM).

The MCM complies with the new mandatory requirements that are required by the revision of the Isle of Man Aircraft Registry Air Navigation Order 2016 .

The MCM describes how the operator complies with the new regulations and states company policy and company maintenance procedures used to perform Continued Airworthiness Management and auditing of their aircraft.

 Thurston Aviation have assisted in the delivery and registration of another Gulfstream 650 from Gulfstream Appleton. 
This delivery is the 5th Gulfstream G650 aircraft delivered by Thurston Aviation and the
aircraft is now operating on the Executive Jet Charter Limited AOC.

Thurston Aviation have taken delivery of two new Gulfstream G280 aircraft which are the first of type to be based and operated from the United Kingdom. 
The aircraft line and base maintenance will be performed by Thurston Aviation at Bournemouth airport.

23rd December 2015

Thurston Aviation have completed a 24 month inspection of a Bombardier Learjet 45. The Inspection also included a double engine MPI inspection, upgrade of the flap actuators, aircraft control surface paintwork and the renewal of the certificate of airworthiness. The aircraft was delivered back to the customer within the 30 day agreed timeframe. 

13th June 2015

Thurston Aviation in conjunction with the Resource Group will be training its first apprentice in September 2015. The training will initially be performed at the Resource groups purpose built state of the art facility at the Cotswold Airport and then practical training will be completed at the Bournemouth Thurston Aviation Facility.

The two years apprenticeship will result in the apprentice obtaining an EASA PART 66 A license and a NVQ in Aircraft Engineering.

Thurston Aviation will receive two new Gulfstream 280 corporate shuttle aircraft in the first quarter of 2016, The aircraft will be completed and delivered from the Texas Gulfstream Aerospace facility in the United States.

Thurston Aviation will be providing the delivery and registration consultation for both aircraft and will begin a programme of engineer training in October to support their future line and base maintenance at Bournemouth.

Thurston Aviation have completed a 24 month inspection on a Middle East based Gulfstream IV-SP aircraft. The aircraft was returned to the customer three days earlier than planned allowing for an unscheduled flight to be performed.

Thurston Aviation have entered into a long term arrangement with European Aviation for the use of hanger 427 at Bournemouth Airport in the United   Kingdom. The hangar will now undergo a series of upgrades and improvements to allow an application for an EASA  PART 145 maintenance approval to be made to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority before the end of 2015.

 

Additional offices are now being constructed which will consolidate the current two Thurston Aviation locations into a single site allowing further development of the PART M / OTAR 39 CAMO arrangements and support provided to our customers.


13th March 2015

The first Bombardier Learjet 75 is registered in Poland with delivery assistance and consultation provided by Thurston Aviation, The Aircraft will be operated on a Polish AOC throughout western Europe.


11th January 2015

Thurston Aviation completes the delivery and registration of a used Dassault Falcon 900EX EASy.

This project included the pre purchase inspection which was performed in Asia, relocation of the aircraft to the United States for a six year inspection, installation of EASy II Avionics, API Winglets, Refurbishment of the cabin Interior including the Installation of LED cabin lights and customised external paint for a corporate customer.

Thurston Aviation will be providing ongoing maintenance and CAMO support to this worldwide operated aircraft.

2014 NEWS

29th December 2014

Thurston Aviation performs the delivery of its forth Gulfstream G650 aircraft. Thurston Aviation provided full delivery and registration service from the green Certificate of Airworthiness through the handover to the customer.

The aircraft will be based in Europe with Thurston Aviation providing ongoing CAMO support.

After a Successful application to the Bermuda Department of Civil Aviation an OTAR 39 Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation Approval has been issued to Thurston Aviation

Thurston Aviation performs the delivery of its third Gulfstream G650 aircraft. Thurston Aviation provided a full delivery and registration service from the green Certificate of Airworthiness through the handover to the customer.
